Entry Requirements

Please note that this information is intended as a guideline and allows you to broadly compare your qualifications to the British qualifications specified on the course pages of this website. Some courses may require a higher standard of English than stated in this page. Applications are considered on an individual basis and other qualifications or work experience may be taken into consideration.

Undergraduate Requirements

  • Students with the Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife/Abitur is accepted. The minimum grade accepted is 2.4 however a higher grade may be required dependant on the course applied for. Our Student Admissions Service can advise you on the specific overall grade for your chosen program.
  • Students with the Fachgebundene Hochschulreife/Fachhochschulreife or Berufsfachschulabschluss will be considered.
  • Students with the Fachschulabschluss (those awarded up until 2012 inclusive) may be considered for advanced entry to Year 2 and Year 3 of an undergraduate programme.
  • Applications will be considered on a case by case basis, please contact our Student Admissions Service for information: admissions@rgu.ac.uk.
  • Applicants who do not hold an International High School qualification will be expected to undertake a pathway programme at our International College.
  • We will consider International Baccalaureate (IB) Qualifications within the range of 26 to 32 (or higher). The specific acceptance criteria differ dependant on the specific course; visit the individual course pages for more information on entry requirements.

English Language 

Most undergraduate courses require an IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each area. Some courses require a higher English language score. Always check the relevant course page and our English Language Requirements page before applying.

Postgraduate Requirements

  • A Bachelor Degree /Fachhochschuldiplom/Diplom (FH) of 2.2 = 3.5 or less or ‘Befriedigend’ – Satisfactory, and 2.1 = 2.5 or less  'Gut' - Good
  • Applicants with a Magister Artium/Diplom (those issued after 2003) is comparable to a British Honours Degree
  • A small number of our Postgraduate courses require a minimum of second class upper classification, or an equivalent - refer to the relevant course pages for more information
  • Applicants with lower qualification and / or relevant work experience will be considered on a case by case basis. Contact our Student Admissions Service for information: admissions@rgu.ac.uk
  • Students who do not meet our direct entry requirements may be able to undertake a pre-masters programme through our International College at Robert Gordon University
