Search Engine Optimisation and Paid Search
This short course will provide an overview of the key principles, practices and concepts of search engine optimisation and paid search, the tools and techniques used including keyword optimisation, on- and off-page SEO and link building strategies and the opportunity to apply this to a project of your choice.
On completion of the course, students will have gained an understanding of the role of search marketing strategy and tactics; search engine optimisation (SEO) to boost a website’s rank on the search engine results page (SERP); pay-per-click advertising (PPC); how to conduct keyword research; on- and off-page SEO best practice; link building strategies; and additional paid advertising that supports SEO and PPC efforts.

Learning Methods
This module is delivered entirely online, using the University’s virtual learning environment, Moodle, using a range of structured learning materials/activities and directed study, facilitated by regular online tutor contact, allowing students to contextualise their learning to their own workplace where appropriate.
Activity Summary
- Lectures - 1-2 hours per week
- Tutorial - 1 hour per week
- Independent Study - 20-23 hours per week
Independent Study
The majority of the course is completed through online independent study, it is expected that you spend approx. 20-23 hours per week working on this module. Whilst you are studying independently, your tutor will be there to support you throughout the module.
Assessment
Typically students are assessed via a written report.
Staff delivering on this course
This course will be delivered by experienced staff who teach across undergraduate and postgraduate Digital marketing programmes who have a strong practical background in industry and are actively involved in both research and projects.
Those who complete this course and achieve 30 credits can use this credit towards the BA (Hons) Digital Marketing degree. Subject to meeting the entry requirements, students enrolling on the Digital Marketing degree can achieve an unclassified degree after one year of study or an Honours degree after two years of study.
