Petroleum Data Management
The online Graduate Certificate in Petroleum Data Management from Robert Gordon University is the first of its kind in the world and was developed in collaboration with Common Data Access Ltd (CDA). It presents Petroleum Data Management as a specialism within professional data and information management.
With the Graduate Certificate Petroleum Data Management you will explore data types, including: seismic and other remote sensing surveys, drilling and well data including MWD/LWD, wireline, well tests, core and samples and how they are used in decision-making. You will then situate these data types in their life cycles, from planning, though collection, management, use and archiving and preservation.
You will examine how data management services are designed and provided and explore how the management of these valuable business assets is governed.
You will develop a thorough understanding of subsurface exploration and production data and evaluate its importance to upstream oil and gas businesses.
You will learn through a unique set of modules including Data Management Life Cycle and Data Quality and Governance.

Detailed module informationThis course is an online course taught through CampusMoodle, the university’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which offers you flexibility of where and when you can study. The course was designed as a ‘native’ online learning course, it is not an online version of an on-campus course.
CampusMoodle provides you with full open access to tutors and other class members. You will have the benefit of being part of a group of learners with the invaluable opportunity to participate in active, group-related learning within a supportive online community setting.

The content has been developed and reviewed in partnership with industry and some guest lecturers may be invited to give virtual lectures.

What is needed for Graduate Certificate Petroleum Data Management?
There are no formal entry requirements to this course. It has been designed as an access route for those with relevant work experience in the energy sector who do not currently have the necessary qualifications in this area.
English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.0 overall, with no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent.
