This 6-week evening course is designed to provide beginners with a number of basic jewellery making techniques. Alongside this you will be taught how to research and develop a simple design as well as learn how to manufacture and finish your own individual piece of jewellery.
Throughout the duration of the course you will be introduced to a number of fundamental jewellery making techniques these include: Saw piercing, soldering, texturing and riveting - a technique also referred to as a ‘cold connection’.
Alongside these techniques, you will learn about a variety of different tools and materials used in jewellery making. You will be taught how to use a variety of equipment safely, whilst being guided through several different processes. Furthermore, you are provided with the opportunity to experiment.
Over this 6-week period, active discussions will take place with a focus on shape, form, pattern and texture. These discussions are combined with the chance to explore the use of various tools and their functions with the aim to develop different textures.
Through this process you will begin to understand the tolerances of different materials and develop a basic understanding of how to join different materials together. As part of this you will create a selection of test pieces that can be used for future reference.
Furthermore, you will learn how to research and develop a simple design, part of which examines the importance of proportion, scale, weight and form. Using the techniques learnt you will manufacture and finish your own individual piece of jewellery.
