By Michele Vitoria, Lecture and Course Leader, The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture & Built Environment - 18 February 2025

On Thursday 13 February, The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture & Built Environment hosted an innovative taster session to offer secondary school pupils an insight into what they could expect going into a career in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management. Michele Vitoria, course leader, tells more…

This event underscored the importance of academia-industry collaboration in promoting careers in Quantity Surveying.

Industry professionals and proud graduates of our school, including Sam Munro MRICS and Christopher Breen from Turner & Townsend, Beth Ironside from McLeod + Aitken, and Cieran Hunter from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, all shared their insights and experiences and what it is like to be a QS. Their diverse roles showcased the versatility and numerous career paths available in this field.

The session featured hands-on activities and engaging talks, providing students with a practical understanding of quantity surveying. We concluded with a lively Q&A session, addressing students' questions and offering valuable information.

The kids left enthused and excited about careers in Quantity Surveying and the feedback so far is overwhelming!

Given the success of this session, we are excited to announce that this will be a recurring event. Our next taster session is planned for May, in collaboration with RICS. Stay tuned for more details.
