Building the future for local youngsters
The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment recently participated in the final of ‘Build Your Future’, an event which brought together teams of school children from secondary schools across the region in an intensive one-day competition held within the Richard Donald Stand of Pittodrie, the home of Aberdeen FC.
The team from Scott’s at RGU was one of ten providers drawn from across the construction industry, practice, and education to provide an engaging challenge for competitors. The school presented an activity to design a neighbourhood of a future sustainable city, with each of the final eight finalist schools undertaking in turn.
The event was run by staff and students from Scott’s. As a collective, they were all genuinely impressed by the level of creativity and teamwork on display from the youngsters involved. The activity provided hands-on experience and insights for the young minds in a bid to broaden their horizons and showcase a possible future.
Neil Lamb, Associate Dean, Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment, commented on the day's success: "Engaging with young minds and showcasing the diverse opportunities within our field is always a rewarding experience.
“The enthusiasm and curiosity displayed by the students on the day reaffirmed the importance of such events in shaping the future of architecture and construction."
Contribution in the 'Build Your Future' event underscores RGU's commitment to community engagement and fostering the next generation of construction professionals. By collaborating with local schools, the University aims to inspire students to consider careers in this dynamic and impactful industry.
