Business and Management student Robyn Fowlie has been selected as RGU'S first golf scholar.

The 21-year-old, who is in the second year of her studies, is taking on other talented student players as part of The R&A Student Tour Series, which takes place across Europe with the final played at St Andrews in March. Robyn has already played her first stop in the tour at Malone Golf Club in Northen  Ireland, with other events taking place in Portugal and Spain.

Thanks to generous support from The Gym Rental Company, The Paul Lawrie Golf Centre and Murcur Links the RGU Golf Scholarship aims to assist with the development and  promotion of golfing excellence for students. This scholarship is designed to support talented golfers to balance their academic studies with their passion for golf, providing them with the resources and opportunities to excel both on the course and in the classroom.

Robyn said: “Being awarded a place on the RGU sport scholarship programme is a big step forward for me. I’m just getting started, but I can already see how valuable this support will be in helping me balance high level golf with university life. I’m excited to compete in the R&A Student Tour and start putting the scholarship backing into action.”

Robyn from Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire, won the Northern Ladies Open at Carnoustie over the summer and finished inside the top 10 at the Scottish Women's Amateur Championship in May 2025.

Robyn is one of more than 30 students who have secured sports scholarships at RGU with Hockey, Curling, Ten Pin Bowling, Tae Kwon-Do, Athletics and Football among the sports represented by those studying a range of different subjects.

Ian Lowe, Head of Sport at RGU Sport, said: “Congratulations to all those selected for this year’s RGU Sports Scholarship Programme.

“This prestigious programme supports student-athletes in balancing academic excellence with elite sporting performance. RGU Sport is proud to stand behind such a talented group, and we’re excited to follow their progress and achievements over the course of the year.

“We’re also thrilled to announce the selection of our first golfer into the RGU Golf Scholarship Programme. With generous backing from The Gym Rental Company, RGU student Robyn Fowlie will compete against Europe’s top student golfers as part of the R&A Student Tour — a fantastic milestone for both Robyn and the University.”
