How Can Tourism Contribute to Achieving SDG14

COIL project between Robert Gordon University in Scotland and Capilano University in Canada.

Project Summary

In this assignment students explored tourism in different countries can contribute effectively to Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life Below Water, based on a comparative case study of two different settings: The UN Howe Sound Biosphere Region in Canada and the Whale & Dolphin Conservation charity’s Scottish Dolphin Centre in Moray, Scotland.

Together with their international colleagues, the students looked at how wildlife tourism stakeholders address the opportunities and challenges involved in meeting SDG14. They explored the effectiveness of codes of conduct in use for sustainable management of visitors and ways in which tourism providers are proactively promoting and delivering Responsible Tourism. The students then drew conclusions and recommendations for both sites based of this comparison, and submitted an infographic.
