Sustainability is complex. It involves socio-cultural, ecological, and economic/built environmental realms, where human connection plays an instrumental part in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, COIL provides an opportunity to engage students in international and intercultural collaboration on projects that are aligned with and driven by the Sustainable Development Goals. Importantly, these projects can be cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary, where STEM, social sciences and humanities all contribute to their achievement.
COIL projects provide an opportunity to engage students in international and intercultural collaboration in projects that are aligned with and driven by the Sustainable Development Goals. COIL projects can support any of the SDGs, however the pedagogy focuses on 4 specific Goals:
COIL provides accessible educational opportunity for experiential learning in a range of disciplines, developing skills and knowledge in safe and collaborative environment.
COIL helps develop a variety of transversal skills and intercultural awareness, increasing employability.
COIL provides equitable and accessible international learning opportunities for those unable to travel abroad on student exchange programmes.
COIL fosters intercultural partnership and collaboration, creating cross-border connections and opportunities for students and faculty.
