Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Law

All modes of delivery will study the same breakdown of modules, but over different durations depending on if studying full time (on campus/online) or part time online.

Stages 1 and 2

You will develop a complete understanding of the main legal principles affecting Oil and Gas industry including maritime law, oil and gas law, environmental law, health and safety and renewable energy. You will gain in depth knowledge around contractual and commercial arrangements including contracts, mergers and acquisitions and dispute resolution.

Stage 3

You will present a written research proposal for submission. This will normally form the basis for the master's level dissertation. You will work independently but under tutorial supervision, to undertake the research and prepare the dissertation.

Learning Methods

Full Time On Campus Mode

You will learn through a combination of lectures, seminars and tutorial sessions. These comprise a mix of tutorial presentations, group study, discussion of findings by teams and/or individuals. Access to our virtual learning environment, CampusMoodle, is also provided giving you access from home to learning materials (including e-books, journals and audio visual resources).

Online Students (full time and part time)

Students will study through the university's virtual learning environment (VLE) CampusMoodle. You will be taught by a dedicated oil and gas law team of law lecturers and supported by RGU's VLEs designed for on-campus students and those studying at a distance. You have the benefit of being part of a group of learners with the invaluable opportunity to participate in active, group-related learning within a supportive online community setting.

How long is an Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Law course?

The Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Law MSc can be successfully completed within 1 year to 30 months, in which the opportunity to receive the necessary skills are obtained.

Independent Study

You are required to engage in your own research as part of your weekly independent study time. Tutorial preparation and private study typically calls for an average of 16 hours of individual private study time per week.

Assessment

This illustrates the assessment methods for Full-time On Campus and Full-time Online Distance Learning study modes. Part-time students will be assessed on a case by case basis reflected by their particular circumstances and job commitments.

• 2 written assignments, including essays (both on campus and distance learning)

What is needed for LLM Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Law?

• Applicants will normally hold a  a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree or its equivalent in any subject discipline.
• Applicants with relevant work experience will be considered on a case by case basis.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent.
