On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Critically appraise global energy, sustainability and climate change issues, the full range of energy options, the changing patterns in energy supply and demand, and the mechanisms for engaging stakeholders in proffering solutions and decision making.
Critically appraise UK energy policy frameworks, strategies, and policy instruments in a broader European and International context.
Critically evaluate energy sector strategic responses to key global challenges, including emergent opportunities and risks of energy system decentralisation and digitalisation.
Critically evaluate and explore the multidisciplinary dimensions of requirements for addressing the opportunities and risks of transitioning to a low carbon economy.

Learning methods

This module is delivered through online learning, via the University's Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle.

There will be a short online induction and introduction session followed by a structured timetable of topic content. Each topic will include online lectures, seminars, discussion fora and activities which you can study at your own time and at your own pace. You will be expected to interact in the online environment with your classmates and tutors.

You will be assigned an academic tutor who will be there to support you through the module and clarify the expectations of the module assessment.

Independent Study

Materials and exercises are available online, allowing participants to study flexibly and independently at any time or in any place around existing work and life commitments.

On this course you will also have access to further reading resources and online tutor support.

Assessment

This course is assessed through a presentation and written report.

Fee-waiver places

If you are domiciled in Scotland, you may be eligible for a fee-waiver place, meaning you can study for free.
