This course will provide an overview of the key principles, practices and concepts of project management operations, the tools and techniques used and will provide an overall understanding of the broad project environment.
Topics
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
- Recognise the project lifecycle, project purposes, tools and techniques and the project environment
- Apply the commercial aspects involved in project management
- Evaluate driving and managing change in project management
- Understand risk and compliance management in the context of project management
- Analyse the key variables of project management
Those who successfully complete this course may use the credit towards RGU’s BA (Hons) Business Management degree.

Learning methods
This module is delivered through supported online learning, via the University's Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle. Teaching utilises a range of structured learning materials/activities and directed study, facilitated by regular online tutor contact, allowing students to contextualise their learning to their own workplace where appropriate.
A two hour seminar is planned each week.
Staff delivering on this course
Academic staff who teach on this course are all professionally accredited project management professionals. Our staff have either achieved Fellowship of Advance HE or are working towards this. This is a professional recognition of lecturer practice, impact and leadership in teaching and learning. In addition, many have featured in the annual Support and Teaching staff with Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) awards voted by the students and organised by RGU:Union.
Independent study
Materials and exercises are available online, allowing participants to study flexibly and independently at any time or in any place around existing work and life commitments.
On this course you will also have access to further reading resources and online tutor support.
Assessment
This course is assessed through one report.
There are no prerequisites for this course.

Fee-waiver places
If you are domiciled in Scotland, you may be eligible for a fee-waiver place, meaning you can study for free.
To be eligible for funding, you need to have 'settled status' in Scotland, with no restrictions on how long you can stay here. For example, this can be from birth or Right to Remain visa.
Eligibility is assessed on application and further evidence may be required.
All other applicants
Applicants who are not eligible for a fee-waiver place can pay to study the course - £500 for the entire course
