This interdisciplinary course will enable you to take a data-driven approach to business challenges, preparing you to manage, analyse and visualise data effectively. This course has been designed in response to huge demand from employers for individuals with data and digital skills who can turn data into insight and insight into action.
You will develop skills and knowledge of the fundamentals of data management, analysis and presentation and you will put these skills into practice through projects and placement, preparing you for a career in business analytics. You will learn from experts in the fields of business analytics, information and data management, data science, communications, computing and business management.
Working across multiple disciplines, the blend of business, technical with analytical knowledge makes this business analytics degree uniquely valuable. Graduate from this course will be perfectly positioned for roles including as Business Analytics Manager, Insight Analyst or Business Intelligence Officer. These roles fill a key gap in supporting organisations to being data driven and often acting as ‘translators’, working between data scientists or machine learning engineers and broader business units.
Year 1
The first year of the course will provide you with the grounding you need in a range of subjects to underpin your development throughout the degree. You will study introductory modules in data analytics, data management, statistical analysis, programming, and business processes and environments.
Year 2
In second year you will grow your knowledge and understanding of business analytics, decision-making processes based on data, database technologies, and project management principles and methodologies. You will also explore the different roles and career trajectories the course can lead on to.
Year 3
In third year you will learn more about business analytics in practice. You will have the opportunity to explore the application of business analytics through placements, study abroad and real-world projects.
Year 4
In fourth year you will look at more advanced aspects of data management, machine learning and artificial intelligence, business environments and strategy, and data governance. You will develop your confidence as a practitioner working in a self-directed manner on a capstone project that you will develop and deliver.

Detailed module informationLearning Methods
You will engage with the course through online and on-campus learning materials, lectures, tutorials, workshops and live client projects. These comprise of a mix of group study, discussion, simulation and presentations of findings by teams and individuals. You will work across different schools engaging with staff and students from different courses.
You will be supported in your portfolio and professional development ensuring you graduate not only with a degree, but a portfolio that evidences your ability to put your learning into practice.
Access to our virtual learning environment, Moodle, is also provided giving you access from home to learning materials.

How long is a BA (Hons) business Analytics course?
A BA (Hons) Business Analytics degree can be completed over 4 years.
Independent Study
In addition to lectures and tutorials, you will spend approximately 20-25 hours per week outside of the class working on your own. This involves activities, such as prescribed reading, preparing for tutorial assignments, team meetings and researching and writing course assignments.
Staff Delivering on This Course
Staff have relevant teaching, research and professional experience in areas including Business Analytics, Information and Data Management, Data Science, Communications, Computing and Business Management. This helps underpin the delivery of the courses in terms of practical examples and case studies. Such contacts in the industry also provide useful links with regards to guest speakers, student company visits and the organisation of live client projects – all of which play an important role in the course.

In Year 3, you will have the invaluable opportunity of undertaking a six-week, twelve-week or year-long placement where you will gain practical experience in an area related to the broader field of business analytics. You can choose to source your own placement or access our Placement Office, who will support you in sourcing and validating a suitable position.
