During this calm, one day workshop participants are invited to learn the process of eco printing with the aim to construct their own lavender scented, weighted eye pillow.
Throughout the morning participants will be taught how to dye both silk and cotton fabrics using a mix of natural dyes obtained from plants and vegetable waste.
The textile prints created will form each eye pillow. Participants will be taught how to assemble their pillowcases via hand sewn methods. Internal construction will involve the use of both rice and hops which are flowers of the hop plant Humulus lupulus. Additionally, lavender will also be incorporated.
As well as creating a weighted eye pillow participants are also invited to create their own printed ribbon and scented draw bags, utilising the workshops remaining materials.
Each participant can expect to leave the workshop with one eye mask, two drawer bags and 2m of printed silk ribbon.

Aymee Charlton
An alumnus of Gray’s School of Art, Aymee Charlton is a textile artist based in the city of Aberdeen. The artist claims inspiration from the natural surrounds of the coast and the local rural landscape. In her escapes from the city she appreciates natures imperfections, this is apparent within her work through the method of eco printing and the surprise elements of its results. The textile artist initially engaged with the process of botanical printing in 2014 whilst in the Scottish Highlands. She has since, continued to collect her own dyestuff to create marks derived from natural sources which she later translates onto different fabrics. The use of natural, non-toxic dyes and the reduction of waste material is important to the artist who cares about the environmental impact of her work.
