This playful, one day workshop invites participants to create their own art in response to sound. The aim of this activity is to support participants in finding a sense of fluidity between their own body and mind. A place to create artwork, in a space where you are absorbed into the sounds around you.
Participants are invited to unwind and respond to sound within an art school environment. The workshop provides an opportunity to explore an artistic process without a set outcome. The aim of this workshop is to creative a space that enables participants to create freely and encourages each person involved to express their creativity in a way they feel comfortable doing so. Throughout the course of the day, the artist will play a range of selected sounds separated in the form of prompts and timed sessions.
Participants are invited to respond to these sounds using a variety of mediums provided. These involve: pencil, ink, charcoal and pastel combined with paper, card, wire, string and modelling clay. Using such materials each person is encouraged to play with drawing, collage and painting using ink.
Provided is the opportunity for participants to shape the day as they wish. The artist will prepare to guide everyone through a variety of sounds however there is also the option for participants to create their own sounds to respond to if they so wish to. This could be explored within the same indoor setting, or this can take place outdoors in the space surrounding the Art School. The purpose of this calming activity is that each sound will stimulate each contributor to respond in a different way, each creating a variety of different, individual art works. In addition to this, each participant is asked to contribute to a collaborative drawing, the form of this piece will be chosen by all participants involved.
Participants can expect to take home any individual work produced during the workshop.
