Community Engagement is at the core of what RGU is about through teaching and learning, public engagement with research, student volunteering opportunities, and long-standing flagship initiatives such as Look Again organised by Gray's School of Art and Streetsport in collaboration with the Denis Law Legacy Trust. Indeed, the University has been awarded the prestigious Bronze Engage Watermark by the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE).
Getting involved in your community - whether as a RGU Student; a member of the public; or a pupil at a local school or college - shows initiative and a willingness to contribute, and that stands out to future employers. It helps you develop transferable skills like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork in a meaningful context. More than that, it shapes your values, broadens your thinking, and helps you figure out the kind of difference you want to make in the world. And when you take time to reflect on these experiences, you begin to see just how much you’ve grown - and how that can be a powerful part of your personal and professional story.

In partnership with the Denis Law Legacy Trust, the Denis Law RGUplus Award (Community Engagement) is your chance to turn the real-world experiences you’re already gaining - whether through part-time work, volunteering, leadership roles, placements, or study abroad - into something that’s recognised and valuable. It's designed to help you reflect on what you've done, identify the skills you've picked up, and boost your confidence in talking about them when it matters - this Award helps you make the most of those experiences by putting them into context and showing future employers what you're capable of.
