Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) Aberdeen Business School (ABS) has received prestigious backing through official accreditation from a leading energy professional membership body.

The Energy Institute (EI) has accredited each of MSc Energy Management, MSc Energy Transitions and Sustainability, and MBA Sustainability and Energy Transitions for both the Chartered Energy Manager (CEM) and the Member of the Energy Institute (MEI) Learning Affiliate designations, in addition to MBA Oil and Gas Management for MEI.

All four of these programmes have received accreditation for five-years, further strengthening and emphasising the array of high-quality and high-impact energy courses available at RGU.

Jo Royle, Dean of Aberdeen Business School, said: “At Aberdeen Business School we are proud of the portfolio of programmes that we offer and have great confidence in their effectiveness in producing graduates that go on to prosper in their chosen field.

“This accreditation from the Energy Institute only highlights this further and is great testament to both the number of quality teaching staff at RGU and the hard work that has gone into creating leading and impactful energy courses - a sector which remains incredibly important to the economy of the North East.”

The Energy Institute is the chartered professional membership body for people who work across the world of energy. Its purpose is to create a better energy future for its members and society by accelerating a just global energy transition to net zero.

The ABS EI accreditation and Learning Affiliate status offers free student membership of the EI and access to knowledge and skills development resources and career opportunities, including network activities and branch events.

Terry Winter, Head of Membership and Accreditation at the Energy Institute, said: “We are delighted and proud to be partnered with RGU’s Aberdeen Business School and look forward to future collaboration.

“Accreditation provides external recognition and a stamp of assurance that the courses are of the highest quality. These students are the energy professionals of tomorrow, and by studying accredited courses, they can be confident that they are being equipped with the right knowledge and skills, opening up a clear pathway to professional registration or chartership.”

RGU’s Aberdeen Business School has a long-standing reputation for its excellence in teaching a wide variety of programmes that combat real world challenges to create top quality work-ready graduates.

In 2020 it was named Times Higher Education’s Business School of the Year and it is also accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), an accolade achieved by only 5% of global business schools.

Recent recognition includes ranking first in Scotland for student satisfaction in Business and Management Studies (Complete University Guide 2025) and first in Scotland and top 5 in the UK for teaching quality in Accounting and Finance (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024).

Key to the school’s progression and development, mirroring the University as a whole, is the increasing popularity and accessibility of courses through new modes of learning. Many programmes are available full or part-time and from on-campus, online and even work-based.
