Gray’s School of Art supports youth arts’ festival

Light the Blue coincides with Gray’s Degree Show from 8 – 15 June, and organisers hope both events will add to the region’s cultural vibrancy and encourage young people across the region to get involved, collaborate and celebrate talent.

As part of the celebrations, Gray’s School of Art will host special degree show guided tours for young people and Gray’s Mobile Art School will bring the Degree Show to the city centre with drop-in art and crafts workshops as part of a family arts day in Union Terrace Gardens on Saturday 8 June.

The art school is also supporting Light the Blue’s Teenage Takeover, with a night of teenage-focused pop-up performances, workshops and experiences for young people.

Dan Allen, Dean for Gray’s School of Art, said: “We are really excited to be supporting Aberdeen Performing Arts’ Light the Blue Festival. Our ambition is to bring people and the arts together so that we can enhance the range of cultural and creative opportunities in the North-East.

“By collaborating with Aberdeen Performing Arts and hosting Gray’s Degree Show during the Light the Blue Festival, we can showcase the north-east’s creative talent and make the creative sector more inclusive for young people across the region.

“With less than two weeks to go until Gray’s Degree Show, we are really busy getting ready for this year’s show and can’t wait to unveil the talent we have across our creative disciplines. I’d like to welcome as many people as possible to visit Gray’s or to pop along to one of the events at the Light the Blue Festival, so that they can experience the amazing collection of art and design on show.”

Jordan Blackwood, Light the Blue Creative Producer for Aberdeen Performing Arts, said: “Light the Blue Festival is all about creating opportunities to get involved in the arts right here in Aberdeen and collaborations such as this with our friends at Gray’s are a key component of that.

“Our Family Arts Day is the perfect chance for youngsters to come and have a go with the Mobile Art School, and we are really excited about the exhibition, which will show our city from the unique perspective of the teenage participants.

“The Degree Show really is a fantastic opportunity to see and celebrate the amazing talent we have on our doorstep, and we can’t wait to see what the students have in store!”
