Gray’s School of Art Degree Show 2023: Neon Futures
Friday 19 May 2023
Gray’s School of Art’s campus will be transformed into a large gallery space as around 150 students across Painting, Contemporary Art Practice, Fashion & Textiles, Communication Design, Three-Dimensional Design and Photography showcase their talent.
‘Neon Futures’ builds on the success of Gray’s Degree Show 2022, which centred around the theme ‘Welcome to the Real World’ and celebrated the move away from the digital to the physical as people came together again to enjoy life post Covid.
Members of the public are encouraged to come to see the graduating talent on show at ‘Neon Futures’. The exhibition is free to visit and many of the artefacts and products exhibited will be for sale. There will also be opportunities to find out more about courses on offer at Gray’s.
As part of weeklong degree show, organisers are planning specialist workshops for school pupils and teachers with graduating students and Gray’s staff on hand to discuss portfolio content and the application process.
A special stakeholder event for industry and key figures will take place ahead of the opening degree show launch, with speeches from Dean of Gray’s School of Art, Libby Curtis, and RGU Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steve Olivier, who will present the RGU Art and Heritage Purchase Awards. These are presented annually to successful Gray’s School of Art students and award winner’s pieces’ are retained in the University’s Art & Heritage Collections.
Dean of Gray’s School of Art, Libby Curtis, said: “The theme of this year’s show ‘Neon Futures’, reflects our graduates ‘new’ and bold futures in the making. Our graduates work represents the intricate relationships between art, design, new technology, and our human condition. Super-charged with new ideas and buzzing with excitement, our graduates invite you to celebrate their ambition, talent, and creative spirit that drives their new futures forward. I can’t wait to welcome you to come and see the exhibition that will be showcased both online and in person at our Garthdee campus. “
The branding for this year’s show, ‘Neon Futures’ has been designed by Communication Design students from Gray’s School of Art, who have created a theme celebrating interaction, excitement and creation of new ideas and new futures.
