Guest@Gray’s brings new programme of free art talks to the North East
Wednesday 05 October 2022
The new Guest @ Gray’s programme will include monthly in person Guest @ Gray’s talks at Cowdray Hall at Aberdeen Art Gallery and also, for the first time, on campus events at Robert Gordon University (RGU).
All the events are free and open to all and will bring together the best national and international artists and designers, writers and curators to heart of Aberdeen.
London artist and designer and recent judge on Sky TV’s ‘Big Design Challenge’, Morag Myerscough, will open the autumn programme for Guest @ Gray’s, with an in person talk at Cowdray Hall at Aberdeen Art Gallery on Friday 7 October from 1pm to 2pm.
Morag will share insights into her internationally renowned work and her vibrant art installation, ‘Love At First Sight’, commissioned by the Look Again Festival in Aberdeen in 2019. Morag’s vibrant large-scale structure encircled the Mercat Cross in the historic Castlegate in Aberdeen and incorporated Doric poems and performance from North East-based poet, Jo Gilbert and painting by the local community.
Other artists lined up for Guest@ Grays in the coming months include Ica Headlam from We Are Here Scotland, Glaswegian fashion designer, illustrator and radical creative Charles Jeffrey of LOVER BOY, Turner Prize nominee Christine Borland, Vicky Higginson who is one of the artists featured in the forthcoming Jerwood Art Fund Makers Open Exhibition at Aberdeen Art Gallery, and Cairngorms -designer of jewellery, objects and installations, Naomi McIntosh.
Hilary Nicoll, Co-director of Look Again at Gray’s School of Art said: “We are delighted to once again be working once with Aberdeen Art Gallery to deliver a new Guest @ Grays programme to the public this autumn. RGU is committed to promoting arts and culture across the North East and the Guest @ Gray’s Programme will bring leading figures from the creative sector to the region and ensure that their brilliant work is accessible to all.
“Part of the success of the Guest @ Gray’s programme is the student committee who help curate the programme. The experience not only helps them develop essential professional skills but also give them opportunities to network and meet a range of creative talent across Scotland.”
The Guest @ Gray’s series is delivered in partnership by Gray’s School of Art’s creative unit, Look Again, students from Gray’s School of Art and Aberdeen Art Gallery. The series not only supports the creative sector in Scotland but also supports RGU’s new ‘Vibrant Campus’ which aims to ensure that our campus is not just a place of study and work but can also be used and enjoyed by the community at large.
