Tuesday 08 June 2021
Released this week, the 2022 guide saw RGU rise 8 places in the student satisfaction metric to become the third best university in Scotland and seventh in the UK, while also having seven of its subjects ranked as top ten in the UK for overall performance.
Deputy Principal, and Vice-Principal for Academic Development & Student Experience, Professor Elizabeth Hancock says: “RGU’s achievements in this year’s Complete University Guide confirm the positive impact of our commitment to student-centred curriculum design and delivery, as well as working in partnership with students to support their resilience, growth as individuals, and success in their studies. It's also testament to the commitment and dedication of our whole staff community.
“Our courses are demand-led and often designed in collaboration with industry to contribute to the economic, social, and cultural achievements in the region—as well as nationally and internationally. This gives students a great sense of purpose, access to many graduate opportunities, and demonstrable satisfaction in their studies.”
The Complete University Guide is an independent university league table that ranks 130 UK-based institutions across ten measures, including student satisfaction, graduate prospects, research quality, and academic services expenditure.
In the guide’s new measure of ‘prospects on track’, RGU attained the joint first-place in Scotland, which shows how well the university tailors its activity toward students’ future career goals.
The university also performed well at the guide’s subject level, with Physiotherapy; Food Science; Building; Tourism; Transport, Travel & Heritage Studies; and Counselling, Psychotherapy & Occupational Therapy all ranked second in Scotland for RGU.
The news is a positive addition to the university’s many recent accolades, including Scottish University of the Year (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021), fourth in the UK for course satisfaction (Guardian University Guide 2021), and its Teaching Excellence Framework Gold Rating—placing it in the top 20% of the best universities in the UK for its undergraduate teaching and learning.
