Stacy de Souza – MSc Human Resource Management
The 23-year-old, who was a Student Ambassador during her time at RGU, wanted to make an immediate return to studying after completing BA (Hons) Applied Social Sciences in 2023.
Stacy said that completing the postgraduate course has helped her improved her professional skills and “instilled a strong sense of confidence” into the former Northfield Academy pupil.
She said: “Completing a master’s degree in Human Resource Management has been invaluable in sharpening my professional skills. This experience deepened my strategic thinking, as I learned to align HR practices with broader business goals, giving me the tools to navigate complex organisational issues.
“The program also enhanced my analytical abilities, especially through case studies and data-driven projects, which are essential for making informed, evidence-based decisions in today’s HR landscape. Additionally, it strengthened my communication and negotiation skills through collaborative discussions, presentations, and networking, all of which are vital for effective interpersonal interactions in human resources.”
During her entire time at RGU, Stacy was keen to use the student support on offer with study skills helping her prepare for academic writing, while the Employability Team helped her prepare for life beyond university with helping her shape her CV for potential employers.
Stacy said she has many highlights during her time on the course but learning from classmates and networking with those working within the HR sector were the significant milestones on her RGU journey.
She said: “Standout moments of my post graduate course include networking with HR professionals who were invited by our lecturers to guide us and talk to us, which deepened my understanding of industry trends and best practices.
"The extracurricular activities, including seminars, helped me build relationships with peers and mentors who share my career interests. These experiences have not only strengthened my HR skills but have also been essential in building a well-rounded, practical foundation that I believe will significantly enhance my career.”
Stacy is now considering her next move after graduation and feels that the lessons learned during her undergraduate and now postgraduate studies are a good starting point for future success.
She concluded: “As someone passionate about helping others achieve their career goals, I understand the journey from a personal perspective. Coming to Aberdeen as an international student, I experienced first-hand the invaluable support that RGU offers to help students succeed.
"From academic guidance to career resources, RGU equipped me with the tools and encouragement needed to reach my goals. It’s this support that drives my commitment to empowering others, providing guidance, and helping them navigate their own paths toward fulfilling careers.”
