Hannah Olawoye – PhD

Hannah Olawoye at P&J Live, Aberdeen
Hannah Olawoye has completed her PhD on Information Management while successfully balancing motherhood.

She admits that the ability to combine her academic journey coupled with a busy home life was “no small feat.”

Hannah’s PhD focused on the socio-cultural adaptation and information literacy skills challenges of Nigerian students coming to study in Scotland and how the higher education system can develop policies to improve the support on offer.

She said: “The ability to combine my doctoral studies and motherhood was no small feat. Balancing the demands of rigorous research with the nurturing role of a mother taught me how to prioritise effectively, stay focused under pressure, and remain adaptable in the face of unexpected challenges.

“This experience not only enhanced my ability to multi-task but also reinforced the importance of perseverance. Each challenge became an opportunity to refine my skills and develop a level of efficiency I never thought possible.

“It also brought a sense of fulfilment, knowing that I was pursuing my academic dreams while being a role model to my children. In the end, this balancing act not only shaped my academic journey but also enriched my personal life.”

Having walked across the stage at P&J Live, Hannah is focused on the future but has been reflecting on her studies at Robert Gordon University (RGU). Hannah is set on moving forward with her career and she enjoyed the opportunity to teach post graduate students.

She said: “My time at RGU has played a crucial role in preparing me for the next phase of my career. The demanding academic programme and rigorous standards have equipped me with a deep understanding of my field, ensuing I have a solid foundation of knowledge to build upon in my professional journey.

“Now that I have completed my doctoral studies, I am eager to pursue a career that leverages my skills and passion for information management. I have a strong interest in lecturing, where I can share my knowledge and experience with students, inspiring and guiding them in their academic journeys.

“Additionally, I am keen to work in sectors such as technology, finance, health care, or research institutions, where managing or interpreting large data sets can drive impactful innovations.”
