Grace Rennie, Accounting and Finance

Not only did Grace Rennie excel at her studies during her time at RGU, but she was also Vice Captain of the netball team and took part in many events to raise money for charity.

The 21-year-old, from Fraserburgh, collected her First Class Honours degree in Accounting and Finance at a ceremony at His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday, July 9 at 2.30pm.

Grace decided to go to RGU as she wanted to challenge herself, meet new people and develop her knowledge of accounting to allow her to start her career.

She said she has really enjoyed her time at university and has developed as a person and become more confident in her ability.

She said: “I have had a great experience at RGU. Many of the lecturers have often come from practice themselves so they can give excellent context to everything we learn.

“My placement at Johnston Carmichael was a brilliant experience where I learnt so much about the process of preparing accounts. I was able to integrate what I had learnt at university into my work, as well as learning new skills such as operating software and preparing files, extracting important information from records and being able to communicate this in an appropriate manner.

“One huge advantage of the course is how well RGU sets the groundwork for ICAS training and exams. Also, at the end of placement year I was offered a job, exam results dependant.

“The breadth of both accounting and business knowledge gained during this course would lead to opportunities in areas other than accountancy practice – I would be interested in potentially exploring the management side of accounting in the future. As well as sitting my ICAS exams.”

Grace was also a member of the RGU netball team for the four years she attended.

“I enjoyed three years on the 2nds team and one year on the 3rds team when I was Vice Captian. I also helped at recreational netball training. This has led to many new friendships from across the whole spectrum of university life. I hope to do a bit of coaching in the future, as well as sitting my grade C umpiring exam.

“Through placement, I joined a team to raise money for Chest Heart and Stroke by running the Banchory Beast race and this year will now be my third year raising money with Johnston Carmichael.”
