What Our Students Say
Samwel Christopher
MSc Data Science student from Tanzania.
What attracted you to your course at RGU?
First of all, my decision was influenced by the university’s student satisfaction ranking in Scotland. With this ranking, it means that there would be a great chance for me to equally gain similar satisfaction with the quality of my studies, which I have been. Apart from that I chose this course at RGU after researching their modules and I was quite impressed to know they have an option of placement where I could be able to experience the practical application of my studies.
Before coming to RGU, what were your expectations? And now that you are here, have your experiences differed?
I expected to get very supportive lecturers since my master’s degree was somehow different from my bachelor’s degree. Well, the experience has exceeded my expectations, my studies have been great as the lecturers here gave quite an extensive introduction during the first weeks for the courses.
What’s the best thing about being an RGU student?
As a student, apart from the support from lecturers, the environment around RGU is very secure and supportive for a student to study.
Describe your favourite memory of RGU so far?
My favourite memory so far is the games which I had found funny during the opening days of university.
Tell us about your most challenging or rewarding project, assignment or module. What did you like or dislike about it and how has it helped you?
Well, I have several modules currently, but the most challenging one is data mining, since it needs a lot of coding. I have been able to practice a lot on it and so this has helped.
What is your favourite way to spend your time when you are not studying?
I love watching movies and talk to people back from my home. I also love to make friends around here to which is kind of hard but am adapting as I have found I am the only Tanzanian in my intake.
What would you say to someone considering studying at RGU? Any advice you would share?
RGU is best when comes to the support from the lecturers. I would recommend any prospective student to come here.
What do you enjoy most about living in Aberdeen (city, food, people, entertainment, travel, etc.)?
I enjoy exploring graffiti and arts around the city.
Tell us about the Agent that you came through, and your experience of working with them?
It was self-application. I found this university through searching on internet and watching students testimonials which convinced me to apply. In Tanzania , I have not heard of any agents promoting this university. Maybe I will be the one in future.
