What attracted you to your course at RGU?
Several factors attracted me to pursue this course at RGU, particularly the range of subjects and the theoretical foundations they offer. Additionally, the opportunity for a one-year placement was key in my choice of RGU, as it provides valuable hands-on experience to complement the academic knowledge I would gain in class. This combination of theory and practical exposure will enhance my understanding and prepare me for the professional world, making this course an ideal choice for my personal and career development.
Before coming to RGU, what were your expectations? And now that you are here, have your experiences differed?
Before coming to RGU, I initially planned to start my career immediately after completing my bachelor’s degree. However, I soon realized the value of gaining deeper academic knowledge and how further education could open a wider range of opportunities for my future. This insight led me to pursue a UK degree, as I understood this would not only enhance my skillset but also provide me with a competitive edge in the job market. The decision to continue my education has been crucial in shaping my long-term career goals and aspirations.
What’s the best thing about being an RGU student?
The cultural diversity, abundant opportunities, advanced technologies, and unique teaching methods are some of the key factors that attracted me to this program. Experiencing different cultures not only broadens my perspective but also enhances my adaptability in a globalized world. The access to modern technologies further enriches the learning experience, allowing me to stay at the forefront of industry trends. Moreover, the innovative teaching approaches encourage critical thinking and problem-solving, preparing me to succeed in a dynamic professional environment.
Are you on a placement and where are you doing your placement?
I completed my placement during my third year at 8848 Restaurant in Aberdeen. This experience allowed me to apply the theoretical knowledge I gained in the classroom to a real-world setting, particularly in the hospitality industry. Working at a renowned local establishment like 8848 not only enhanced my practical skills but also gave me valuable insight into the operational aspects of the restaurant business, including customer service, management, and teamwork. This placement was an integral part of my learning journey and helped me grow both professionally and personally.
Describe your favourite memory of RGU so far?
My favourite memory at the RGU was when I won the best overall student for stage 2 International Hospitality Management in 2023.
Tell us about your most challenging or rewarding project, assignment or module. What did you like or dislike about it and how has it helped you?
The most challenging module for me was finance, but my lecturers provided invaluable support through practical examples and mock exams. Their guidance helped me better understand complex concepts and boosted my confidence in tackling difficult topics. This support played a crucial role in helping me succeed in the module.
What is your favourite way to spend your time when you are not studying?
Spending time with friends from different cultures and countries was my favourite way to enjoy my time abroad when I wasn’t studying. These gatherings not only allowed me to relax but also gave me the opportunity to learn about diverse traditions and perspectives, making my experience even more enriching.
What would you say to someone considering studying at RGU? Any advice you would share?
Studying at RGU will provide you with valuable experiences and deepen your knowledge, enriching both your academic journey and future career.
What do you enjoy most about living in Aberdeen (city, food, people, entertainment, travel, etc.)?
What I like most about Aberdeen is the diverse range of experiences it offers. The local cuisine and rich cultural heritage are fascinating, and the opportunity to interact with people from various countries adds a global dimension to daily life. I also enjoy traveling to nearby cities, which gives me the chance to explore more of Scotland. Additionally, the architecture of Aberdeen’s city buildings, with their unique granite design, is truly impressive and adds to the city's distinct charm.
