What attracted you to your course at RGU?

What drew me to my course at RGU was the genuine thrill of applying and sharing knowledge through hands-on study. As I took the next step in my professional journey, alumni testimonials showed that Robert Gordon University values this approach. Learning should be more than just theory—it’s about practically applying knowledge to make a real-world impact. RGU’s dedication to hands-on experience, backed by exceptional facilities and strong industry ties, offers a thriving environment. Funding opportunities here make education accessible, and the lively campus setting, as highlighted in RGU student blogs, fosters a true sense of community. I wanted my education to be dynamic and meaningful, where I can see the impact of what I am learning in the world around me.

Before coming to RGU, what were your expectations? And now that you are here, have your experiences differed?

Before coming to RGU, I expected a university that emphasized practical learning alongside academic rigor, a place where knowledge would go beyond theory to shape real-world solutions. I also hoped for a supportive, welcoming community, as I'd read from alumni and student blogs, and anticipated financial accessibility to make studying abroad feasible.

Now that I'm here, my experience has not only met but exceeded these expectations. RGU's hands-on approach, industry connections, and excellent facilities have provided the immersive learning environment I envisioned. The supportive campus community has made socializing natural and enjoyable, and funding support has indeed lightened the financial load. RGU has already shown itself to be the dynamic and fulfilling environment I was looking for, with opportunities for both professional growth and meaningful connections.

What’s the best thing about being an RGU student?

The best thing about being an RGU student is the strong sense of community and support you experience as a member of the RGU community. From the moment you arrive, you feel welcomed by both fellow students and staff, making it easy to connect and build friendships. I also love the beautiful campus; it creates a lovely environment for both studying and hanging out with friends. RGU promotes a collaborative atmosphere where diverse perspectives are valued, enhancing your learning experience. Plus, the university's focus on practical learning and industry partnerships ensures that you gain valuable skills for your future career. This blend of community spirit, stunning surroundings, and hands-on opportunities truly makes RGU a worthy place to study.

Are you on a placement and where are you doing your placement?

Not yet, but I expect to begin my placement next year toward the end of my course, and I'm really looking forward to gaining more hands-on experience and applying what I've learned in a real-world setting.

Describe your favourite memory of RGU so far?

My favourite memory of RGU so far is from Freshers' Week when I discovered the new Ghanaian society. The vibrant atmosphere and the warm enthusiasm of the entire university community created a wonderful sense of belonging.

Recently, the society organized a Freshers' welcome party that was such an experience. There was great music, delicious food, and of course, Ghanaian jollof, which made it feel like a taste of home. It was an opportunity to connect with fellow Ghanaians and share our culture. I look forward to making even more unforgettable memories during my time at Robert Gordon University.

Tell us about your most challenging or rewarding project, assignment or module. What did you like or dislike about it and how has it helped you?

I'm currently working on a coursework project focused on black box testing in the context of cybersecurity. It's my first time tackling this type of testing, and while it’s been quite challenging—especially since I have no prior information about the machine - I’m enjoying the process. There have been moments of frustration when I feel stuck and progress seems slow, but this project has driven me to conduct extensive research and learn more about identifying vulnerabilities and potential exploits. Despite the challenges, it’s been fulfilling to see my growth and realize how much I’m learning through hands-on experience.

What is your favourite way to spend your time when you are not studying?

When I'm not studying, I love to kick back and enjoy a movie or listen to music. There's something special about getting lost in a great film or discovering new songs that just makes me feel good. It’s my favourite way to recharge, giving me a nice escape from my studies.

What would you say to someone considering studying at RGU? Any advice you would share?

If you’re considering studying at RGU, I highly recommend it! The supportive community makes a big difference, and you'll find plenty of people ready to help you succeed. My advice? Experience campus life—join societies, attend events, and connect with others. These experiences will enrich your time here and help you build lasting friendships. Take advantage of the hands-on learning opportunities, too; they’ll prepare you well for your career. Embrace the diversity around you and enjoy every moment of your journey at RGU!
