What attracted you to your course at RGU?
Earning an MSc in Data Science degree from Robert Gordon University aligns perfectly with my goal of developing resilient systems and policies to protect vulnerable areas and enhance disaster response. My previous job experience exposed me to the critical role data science plays in real-world crisis. I’m eager to deepen my knowledge of data manipulation, hypothesis testing, and predictive modelling skills essential for early warnings and rapid decision-making during disasters like floods. I envision returning to Pakistan with advanced expertise and innovative approaches to revolutionize disaster management and reduce the impact of natural calamities.
Before coming to RGU, what were your expectations? And now that you are here, have your experiences differed?
Before arriving at RGU, I expected a challenging academic environment, hands-on experience with cutting-edge data science tools, and a supportive community that encourages growth. I was also excited about Aberdeen’s vibrant international community and hoped to engage with peers from diverse backgrounds. Now that I'm here, RGU has exceeded my expectations—the faculty is incredibly approachable, the facilities are impressive, and I’ve found endless opportunities for collaboration with talented students from around the world. The experience has been more enriching than I anticipated, both academically and culturally, setting a strong foundation for my future career in data science.
What's the best thing about being an RGU student?
The best thing about being an RGU student is the blend of practical learning and a supportive community. RGU’s emphasis on real-world applications makes every lesson valuable and directly relevant, while the welcoming, diverse community offers endless opportunities for collaboration and personal growth. The access to modern facilities, approachable faculty, and networking events also creates an inspiring environment to learn, innovate, and prepare for a successful career.
Describe your favourite memory of RGU or your Placement so far?
My favourite memory at RGU so far has been during the Open Week. It was an exciting opportunity to explore the campus, connect with faculty, and meet fellow students from all over the world. I got to experience the university’s vibrant community firsthand and gain insight into the facilities and support available. This warm and welcoming atmosphere made me feel at home instantly and reinforced my decision to study here.
Tell us about your most challenging or rewarding project, assignment or module. What did you like or dislike about it and how has it helped you?
Currently, I haven't had a specific project or assignment that stands out as particularly challenging or rewarding, but I am coping well with my modules. I’m finding the balance between theoretical concepts and practical applications quite engaging, and it’s helping me build a strong foundation in data science. This experience has improved my time management and adaptability, and I’m excited to tackle more complex projects as the course progresses.
What is your favourite way to spend your time when you are not studying?
I like to cook and bake when I'm not studying so you can say that it's my favourite way to spend my free time.
What would you say to someone considering studying at RGU? Any advice you would share?
I’d encourage anyone considering RGU to go for it! The university offers a fantastic blend of practical learning, supportive faculty, and modern facilities, making it an ideal place to develop both academically and personally.
What do you enjoy most about living in Aberdeen?
What I enjoy most about living in Aberdeen is the city’s unique blend of natural beauty and vibrant urban life. The scenic coastline, fresh air, and occasional glimpse of the aurora make it a beautiful place to unwind. The local food scene is also diverse, offering a mix of cuisines from around the world. People here are warm and welcoming, making it easy to feel at home, and there’s always something to do, from cultural festivals to exploring nearby historical sites. Living here has truly enhanced my experience as an RGU student!
