Support & Advice Services 

Out of Hours and Emergency Support

There is a multitude of ways to get support and help when the university is closed or if you have an emergency.

Student Life services are available Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00, except on University closure days.

In an emergency i.e. if you believe that you or someone else is at immediate risk of harm, you should call 999.  

For all other instances, issues or help, there are still many ways you can get support.


Mental and Physical Health

It is recommended that you contact someone you trust for support, and if this is not possible you can contact support services such as: 

GP and NHS24

You can call your GP and NHS24 (phone 111) for non-emergency support regarding your mental and physical health concerns.

You can also access support at any time by calling or using the app.

SilverCloud

Are you looking to improve your wellbeing? SilverCloud is a free self guided CBT platform full of individual programmes to address underlying issues that can have a negative impact on how you are feeling. Silvercloud is free to use in Scotland.

Use the password Scotland2020 to access the programmes.

 

Papyrus

PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is the UK charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people.

Breathing Space

Breathing Space are a free, confidential phone service for anyone in Scotland experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety.

 

Mind

Mind provide advice and support to empower you if you are experiencing a mental health problem.

Samaritans

Samaritans can offer a safe place for you to talk any time you like about whatever’s getting to you – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 

If you’re out of the UK you can also contact them via email on jo@samaritans.org although the response may take a little longer.

 

LGBTQ+ Support

LGBT+ Helpline Scotland

LGBT+ Helpline Scotland provides emotional support and information to the entire diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community across Scotland. This includes queer, intersex, asexual people and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella.

The service is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (12:00 - 21:00) Sundays (13:00 - 18:00)

Mind Out - LGBTQ+ Mental Health Service

MindOut is a mental health service run by and for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ) people.

Robert Gordon University, in partnership with RGU Students’ Union, is committed to the prevention of all forms of Gender Based Violence, Bullying, Hate Crime and Harassment.

Rape Crisis Grampian

If you have been sexually assaulted you can also contact Rape Crisis Grampian (RCG). Rape Crisis is a charity that provides free, confidential support to anyone age 11 + who has been subjected to any form of sexual violence, regardless of when it happened.

Report + Support

Our online platform enables the reporting of incidents of Gender Based Violence, Hate Crime, Harassment or Bullying to us at RGU, either anonymously, to simply disclose, or to get further support from our services.


Hate Crime and Harassment

If you have been the victim of hate crime or harassment you can contact Police Scotland, or contact your GP or NHS24 on 111 if you need non-urgent medical assistance.

If you have been the victim of or witnessed a Hate Crime, Safer Scotland, a government initiative, has information on the legal definitions of Hate Crimes, guidance on how and where to report incidents, and a comprehensive list of organisations who can provide support.
