What's happening
Female-only gym night
Her Night is a one-off female-only gym session designed to provide a welcoming, supportive environment where women can build confidence, explore the gym and engage in physical activity.
5km loop
Light the Night Movement Run, a fun and inclusive evening event inspired by the SOAR Light the Night campaign, is being delivered in collaboration by RGU athletics club and RGU Sport.
This is not an Athletics Club event, it's an opportunity for students and staff from across the RGU community to come together, get moving, and brighten up the night in a welcoming and supportive environment. The 5km loop gets underway at 20:00 at RGU Sport.
There will be a run leader at the front, and a designated tail walker at the back, to ensure no one is left behind! Luminous face paint and glow-in-the-dark accessories will be available before the run!
Whether you're a regular runner, jogger, or simply looking to enjoy an active evening with friends, everyone is welcome. Come along, light up the night, and be part of a community movement promoting wellbeing, connection, and physical activity.
Climbing session
A female-only climbing session, led by members of the RGU Climbing Club, is also taking place for climbers new and old.
The club will provide guidance and support, whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned climber. The session starts at 19:00 inside RGU Sport.
Why is Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week important?
Research consistently shows that women participate in sport and physical activity at lower rates than men and face specific barriers to participation, including:
- Lack of confidence
- Fear of judgement
- Body image concerns
- Intimidation within gym environments
- Male-dominated fitness spaces
- Caring responsibilities and lack of time
Research from sportscotland highlights that women participate in sport and physical activity at lower levels than men and identifies confidence, body image and male-dominated environments as key barriers.
Women-only sessions are a recognised approach across the sport and leisure sector to help address these barriers and encourage participation.
Female RGU Sport members and members of the public are encouraged to come along to Her Night, experience our gym facilities, and have fun taking part in physical activity.
