Interprofessional Learning (IPL)

Teamworking in health and social care is often referred to as Interprofessional practice, which results in collaborative, comprehensive, effective and safe person-centred care.

On this page

Interprofessional education occurs when students/practitioners from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes (World Health Organization, 2010 and CAIPE 2010). The understanding that health and social care teams collaborative practice can improve care has never been more evident. In recent years concerns over patient safety, quality of care delivery, poor outcomes and errors have brought about a greater emphasis on `Teaming` and the value that collaboration, consultation and what unconditional positive regard brings to care.

At RGU we use the phrase interprofessional practice as a route map to create a learning continuum where two or more professions, students, patients, residents, clients, health and social care workers: learn with, from and about one another to enable safe and effective collaborative practice.

Mission Statement

This academic Centre will develop curriculum and learning opportunities for aspiring health and social care professionals to develop authentic collaborative working practices to the benefit of person-centred, evidence and values-based care.
