The University recently acquired two electric vehicles which can be used by staff on RGU business and there are also a number of electric charging points available across campus to support those with electric vehicles. The University participates in the Liftshare scheme to help staff & students find a car share partner. As well as saving emissions, those that car share can save money through both fuel costs and generous car share permit discounts. University staff can also access a personalised travel plan to help arrange a more sustainable commute.
For the third year running, RGU has secured funding for a Campus Cycling Officer to help increase cycling participation among both staff and students on campus and around Aberdeen. The University will have someone in the post for the next academic year of 2023-2024 which will be funded by Cycling Scotland. BikePad, which is operated by RGU Union, provides a workshop for bicycle repairs as well as offering bike hire. All University staff can access the Cycle to Work scheme to purchase a bike up to £3,000.
Furthermore, the University promotes the FREE bus travel scheme for under 22s, with various discounts through First & Stagecoach to assist with commute cost for staff and students not eligible for the free scheme. Train season ticket loans are available for staff of up to £2,000 interest free.
