RGU combines strong academic leadership with a clear governance framework to ensure effective decision-making, accountability, and long-term success.

How RGU is governed

Robert Gordon University is governed by the Board of Governors and led by the Principal and Vice-Chancellor. Together with the Executive and Academic Council, they provide strategic leadership, academic oversight, accountability and effective decision-making across the University.

The Chancellor is the ceremonial Head of the University and confers degrees and awards.
The Board of Governors is responsible for the University's overall strategy, governance and stewardship.
The Principal and Vice-Chancellor is responsibile for the day-to-day leadership and management of the University.
The Executive supports the Principal in delivering the University's strategic priorities and operational objectives.
Academic Council oversees academic standards, quality and the academic work of the University.
Committees support governance, decision-making, scrutiny and risk management across the institution.
