Opening Times

Please note, we are open to external bookings which can mean the wall closes at certain periods of time to the public. We advise that you call us on 01224 263666 if you’re travelling to us from afar to ensure the wall is free.

Climbing Assessment

Already an experienced climber and able to put on a harness, tie in, and belay safely? Have an instructor sign you off as having the ability to use the climbing wall in a safe and competent manner.

Running for just half an hour, an assessment is mandatory before gaining access to the climbing facilities.

Assessed climbers are eligible to sign in up to two non-assessed buddies aged 5 years and above.

No teaching or assistance will be provided during Assessments. These are purely to assess your current ability to use the wall safely.

During the summer, please contact rgusportenquiries@rgu.ac.uk to arrange an assessment or for more information.

• Cost £8.50 – includes a free climb afterwards if you successfully pass your assessment

Bouldering room

Why not try something a little different and get yourself on our bouldering wall. Anyone can come in and use our bouldering wall, all you have to do is activate the free ‘bouldering registration’ membership and complete the waiver form. Bouldering registration can be completed in person at RGU SPORT Reception.

You will then be able to use the bouldering room by signing in and paying at reception.

Cost

• Members - £5.50
• Non-members - £6.90

Booking

You are no longer required to book in for climbing or bouldering sessions, but please check opening times before travelling to our facility to make sure it's available. We advise that customers call reception on 01224 263666 before travelling, especially at weekends, in case the wall is closed for parties.

Club Descriptions

Block Dates

Blocks run in either 8 week or 12 week depending on school term dates. Blocks can be booked by calling reception on 01224 263666. Please note, your child will have to attend a taster before joining a club, so we can ensure we get the correct level of club for them.

• Block 1: weeks commencing 19 August – 7 October 2024
• Block 2: weeks commencing 28 October – 16 December 2024
• Block 3: weeks commencing 6 January – 24 March 2025
• Block 4: weeks commencing 14 April – 30 June 2025
   

Learn to climb courses for adults

• Thursday: 19:00 – 20:30
• £75 for members and £85 for non-members
• 4 week blocks
  • Block 1: weeks commencing 2 September -23 September
  • Block 2: weeks commencing 28 October – 18 November
  • Block 3: weeks commencing 20 January – 10 February

Learn to climb sessions for children

• Thursday: 17:00 – 18:00
• Saturday: 11:00 - 12:30
• £65 for members and £75 for non-members
• Thursday and Saturday 4 week blocks
  • Block 1: weeks commencing 2 September -23 September
  • Block 2 weeks commencing 28 October – 18 November
  • Block 3: weeks commencing 20 January – 10 Februar
• All lessons with a qualified instructor

Taster sessions

Taster session are a great chance to come along to see if you like it or not.

All taster sessions are bookable online or via reception on 01224 263666.

Climbing taster sessions for 5 to 15 year olds

• Great chance to try climbing first before joining one of the clubs
• Saturday: 11:00 - 12:00
• Thursday: 17:00 - 18:00

Adult climbing taster sessions

• Thursdays: 19:00 – 20:00

Taster session dates

• Round 1: weeks commencing 19 August & 26 August
• Round 2: weeks commencing 30 September & 7 October
• Round 3: weeks commencing 25 November & 2 December

After the sessions, the instructors will advise whether the attendees should join a club or a learn to climb course as the next step.

Prices

These prices are per person, one person should book online and additional people pay on arrival.

Group Bookings

We can provide external group bookings for a variety of events including birthday parties, scout and cub bookings, football teams and many more.

• Bouldering and climbing experience available with qualified instructors
• £120 per hour (excl VAT)
• Studio space included for food afterwards

Restrictions

If any courses are running or if we have a private booking, they will have priority of lines. You may be asked to move from a line if it is specifically needed. If any big events are happening, we will try to let you know in advance on our Facebook page.

Promotions

We offer a book of 10 climbing tickets for £40 that can be used to access our climbing wall or bouldering room. If you are interested in purchasing this pass, speak to our RGU SPORT staff at our reception desk or call us on 01224 263666.
