School opens its doors for prospective midwives
Thursday 02 August 2018
The Midwifery Insight Afternoon will be an opportunity for interested people across Grampian, the Highlands and Tayside to meet with academics, current students and service users to learn about the experience of being a midwife.
It will take place on Wednesday 22 August in the Ishbel Gordon Building at RGU’s Garthdee campus, with workshops and information sessions running from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
Prospective students can learn more about the university and see what life would be like as a midwifery student.
Over the course of several interactive workshops, they can expect to hear about course details and potential placements with RGU’s healthcare partners across the North of Scotland.
There will also be an opportunity to speak with women who have gone through childbirth and talk about their experience of midwifery care.
Fiona Gibb, Senior Midwifery Lecturer and Lead Midwife for Education, said: “This Insight Afternoon will be the first event of its kind for midwifery at RGU and our staff and students are looking forward to sharing their skills and stories with potential future students.
“We have benefitted from working in partnership with our clinical colleagues at NHS Grampian, NHS Tayside, NHS Highland and the Royal College of Midwives as together we work to address the growing need for skilled midwives across the country.
“In addition to learning more about midwifery, we will have staff on hand to help people to navigate the application process.
“So, whether you are leaving school or looking to change your career, midwifery is an ideal and rewarding option for many people looking to fulfil their potential.”
