Entrepreneurship Summer School

For graduates who want to set up a business or be self-employed, this step-by-step virtual training programme will allow students to develop their career beyond university.

Are you interested in being a freelancer or setting up your own business? Are you graduating in summer 2021 or recently graduated? The Entrepreneurship Summer School is a free two-week training course to take graduates step-by-step through the process of developing an idea to setting up a business.

The programme is designed to practical and interactive and will include a mix of online content and engaging virtual workshops and simulations. Students who complete the full programme will be eligible for an RGU Enterprise Summer School which you can add to your LinkedIn profile.

Programme Schedule

The Entrepreneurship Summer School will run online from Monday 16 August to Thursday 26 August 2021. There will be a number of online sessions which will run on:

  • Topic 1: Setting your business ambitions - Monday 16 August, 13:00 - 15:00
  • Topic 2: Defining the customer problem - Tuesday 17 August, 13:00 - 15:00
  • Topic 3: Developing your business idea - Wednesday 18 August, 13:00 - 15:00
  • Topic 4: Testing your business - Thursday 19 August, 13:00 - 15:00
  • Topic 5: Researching your market- Monday 23 August, 13:00 - 15:00
  • Topic 6: Marketing your business - Tuesday 24 August, 13:00 - 15:00
  • Topic 7: Understanding business finances and operations - Wednesday 25 August, 13:00 - 15:00
  • Topic 8: Setting up your business - Thursday 26 August, 13:00 - 15:00 

Programme Content

Over the course of the summer school there will be online topics which you can complete in advance in your own time. For each topic, there will also be a virtual workshop which is designed to be interactive and fun to help students connect with each other and work through the steps for setting up a business. These workshops will put you in the shoes of a business leader and challenge you to make decisions that will prepare you for your own venture. You do not need to have a business idea to apply for the programme but will be able to develop one as a result of it.

Programme Outcomes

Everyone who participates in the Entrepreneurship Summer School will get a certificate of participation, while those who submit evidence of their learning such as canvases and a short reflection will be eligible for an RGU Enterprise Award. This award can be used as a digital badge to be added to students LinkedIn profiles. In addition, the summer school will help graduates connect with other aspiring entrepreneurs and freelancers and take them step-by-step through the process of setting up a business. Participants will have access to business mentors through the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Group.

Register for the Programme

The Entrepreneurship Summer School is open to graduates of Robert Gordon University. Participants who are interested in taking part should register online in advance to book their place. Interested individuals should register by Sunday 8 August 2021.
